When the sun sets and the crisp evening air rolls in, Jennings Beach transforms into a cozy haven, thanks to the pair of fire pits that light up the shore. These fire pits have become a quintessential Fairfield experience for those looking to extend their time by the water and enjoy a warm, welcoming spot to gather.
Jennings Beach Fire Pits: Perfect for Group Gatherings
The Jennings Beach fire pits (one at J2 and the other at J6) are quite large and can accommodate groups, making them ideal for socializing and enjoying the beach in a completely different way than the day time. The natural beauty of the beach combined with the warmth of the fire makes for a relaxed yet vibrant setting that’s simply ideal.
The neatest thing about parties at a fire pit: you kinda feel like the beach is all yours. Daytime beach goers all leave as the sun sets and the temperature drops, so aside from a faint distant light of the other pit, the beach is empty. Kids have ample room to run around, and there’s no loss of line-of-sight… so you can sit and enjoy an adult conversation by the fire and easily keep an eye on the little ones. If there’s a clear sky, the moon (both directly and with it’s reflection off The Sound) provides ample light.
Reservation Process
The reservation processes is a first come, first serve system. Reservations open in March each year, and are usually gone with the first 12 hours of availability. If your night is rained out, you can notify town Parks and Rec, and they will try to reschedule you (unlikely… most every night is already booked by that time!). If they cannot reschedule you, they issue a refund.
Reservations are offered between May and September (dates are vary each year), and currently cost $100 a night. Additional information is available on the town Rec Department site.
Tips for Optimal Pitting
- Arrive early to set up and get settled in before the party begins.
- There are picnic tables nearby. Try to get one and use it as a serving station for food & drink.
- Bring firewood or purchase it locally to ensure a cozy fire.
- Plan your menu – remember several local pizza restaurants deliver!! Just let them know your “J” number (the nearest crossing from the parking lot to the sand).
- Invite your friends – there’s a wonderful “tit for tat” in the neighborhood of everyone getting invited to each other’s fire pit parties… it’s one of the many ways this neighborhood feels like such a close community – pass it on!
Mohegan Lake Fire Pit
For those of you looking for a more peaceful body of water to sit by – or if you live in the Lake Hills area and don’t feel like driving all the way to the beach – there’s a 3rd rentable fire pit on the beach at Mohegan Lake. The reservation process is the same. Good luck on your reservation, and enjoy!
