Independence Day Fireworks

Fireworks at Jennings Beach: A Beloved Summer Tradition

Fairfield’s annual fireworks at Jennings Beach isn’t just a show—it’s a beloved summer tradition. From pre-show tunes to the mirror-like finale over the water, it’s a perfect blend of community and spectacle. Whether with family or friends, it’s an evening that captures the joy of summer in one unforgettable burst of color.

🎆 What to Expect

Held each year around the Fourth of July, the fireworks show begins just after dark, typically around 9:15 PM. Fireworks are launched from a barge just off Jennings Beach, offering a stunning reflection across Long Island Sound.

In the event of inclement weather, a rain date is scheduled for a subsequent evening. The town posts updates on social media through Fairfield Parks & Recreation.

Why It’s One of Connecticut’s Best

A professionally choreographed fireworks display lights up the sky in a breathtaking show of light and sound. Many locals consider it the best Independence Day celebration in the state. Live music and radio broadcasts from WEBE 108 and Star 99.9 enhance the festive beachside atmosphere leading up to the main event.

Plan Ahead: Parking & Traffic Tips

  • Beach Parking: A Town of Fairfield-issued beach sticker is required to park at Jennings or Penfield Beaches. Jennings offers about 300 spaces; Penfield has significantly fewer.
  • Street Closures: “No Parking Tow-Away” zones go into effect at 5:00 PM on several nearby streets. Violators will be ticketed and towed.
  • Traffic Flow: After the fireworks begin, roads from the beaches to Post Road are converted to one-way only to help with crowd dispersal. I‑95 Exit 22 ramps will also close. Expect delays of up to an hour when leaving the area.

Pro Tip: Arrive early to secure a spot and enjoy the pre-show energy. Even better, make a friend who lives in the Beach neighborhood, so you can crash at their pad and not deal with the exiting traffic :).

Best Viewing Spots & Family Tips

  • Where to Sit: Both Jennings and Penfield Beaches offer clear, open views of the show. Jennings is preferred for its closer proximity to the barge.
  • What to Bring:
    • Chairs, blankets, or beach mats
    • Snacks, water, and sunscreen (if you go early)
    • Glow sticks and flashlights for after-dark visibility
    • Ear protection for younger kids
    • Strollers or wagons for convenience (make sure they can handle rolling on the sand!)
  • If you own a boat: you can view from the water, but there’s a safety perimeter that must be maintained around the barge. Still… it’s an AMAZING way to view the show!
  • What to Leave at Home: Tents, personal grills, alcohol, smoking, and any kind of personal firework.
