The Fairfield Farmers Market: Sundays on Sherman Green

Sunday morning in Fairfield has a rhythm to it. Somewhere around ten, the downtown green fills with white tents, the smell of fresh bread and coffee drifts across the grass, and it feels like half the town wanders through before two o’clock. That is the Fairfield Farmers Market, and if you are still getting to know Fairfield, it is one of the easiest and most pleasant ways to do it.

When and where

  • Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • June 7 through October 11, 2026 (the market’s 11th season)
  • Sherman Green, 1451 Post Road, right in the middle of downtown

Sherman Green is the same downtown green that hosts the summer concert series by the gazebo, so on a good Sunday you get produce, live music, and a shady place to sit all in one spot.

What you will find

The market has grown to more than forty vendors. Six Connecticut vegetable farms anchor it, and around them you will find meat, eggs, fish, bread, honey, baked goods, mushrooms, fresh flowers, pickles, prepared foods to eat on the spot, and locally distilled spirits and cider. A rotating cast of artisan makers fills out the rest.

There is usually live music on the gazebo, and the Fairfield Library runs story hours through the season, so it is an easy stop with little ones along.

Making a morning of it

  • Come closer to ten if you want first pick of the produce and flowers.
  • Bring a tote or two. It is easy to buy more than you planned.
  • It sits right on the Post Road, so you can pair it with the downtown shops and cafes around the green.
  • Leashed dogs are a common sight.

One of the quiet pleasures of downtown Fairfield is how many neighborhoods sit within an easy walk of the green, so a lot of regulars just stroll in and carry their bags home. It is a small thing, but it is part of what makes a Sunday here feel unhurried.
