If you ask me, Fairfield is at its best between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The town basically runs on two stages all summer: the beaches along the Sound, and Sherman Green downtown. Between the two of them, there is live music four nights a week, free movies on the sand, fireworks over the water, and plenty of quieter corners when you want a slower afternoon.
This is the one-page guide to all of it, updated for 2026. Every date below comes straight from the town’s Parks & Recreation program, and each event links to a deeper post if you want the full details.

On the sand
Sand Jam movie nights at Jennings Beach
Free beach parties with a DJ dance party from 6:30 to 8:30 PM and a movie on the big screen once it gets dark (usually around 8:45). The 2026 lineup: Zootopia 2 (June 11), The Bad Guys 2 (June 26), GOAT (July 10), Hoppers (July 24), and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (August 7). A beach sticker gets you in; non-residents pay $40 at the gate, credit card only. Full details in the Sand Jam post.
Independence Day Fireworks
The town’s biggest single night of the summer. The show fires from a barge off Jennings and Penfield beaches on Friday, July 3 at 9:15 PM, and honestly, watching it from a blanket on the sand is one of my favorite Fairfield moments of the year. Beach fire pits
One of Fairfield’s best-kept summer traditions: reserving a fire pit on the beach for an evening. S’mores, sunset, and the Sound. How reservations work is covered in the beach fire pits post.
The beaches themselves
Jennings Beach is the big one, home to Sand Jam and the fireworks, with South Benson Marina right next door if you like watching the boats come and go. Penfield Beach anchors the other end of the shoreline with its pavilion. Both fill up on summer weekends, and for good reason.
On Sherman Green
Downtown’s gazebo green at the Post Road and Reef Road is Fairfield’s other summer stage, and there is music on it four nights a week. The full story of the green (including the 1985 volunteer-built gazebo) is in the Sherman Green post.
Summer Concert Series (Thursdays and Sundays)
Free concerts from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, twice a week, running through August 23. The genre rotates constantly… classic rock one night, a Beatles tribute the next, country, R&B, funk, a 60’s show. Sweet Sounds of Summer (Saturdays)
The Saturday-night series on the green, 6:30 PM through August 29, sponsored by Al’s Angels and Saugatuck Sweets. Schedule and lineup in the Sweet Sounds of Summer post.
Peanut Butter Jam (Wednesday mornings)
Kids’ concerts on the green, Wednesdays from 10:15 to 11:00 AM, June 17 through July 29. Little ones dancing in front of the gazebo is exactly as charming as it sounds. Performer schedule in the Peanut Butter Jam post.
One-night events worth circling
Comedy at Penfield Pavilion: Thursday, July 9 at 8:00 PM, headlined by Christian Finnegan. A comedy show with the beach right outside the doors is a very Fairfield way to spend a Thursday. Tickets and details through Fairfield Parks & Recreation.
For the quieter days
Not every summer day needs a stage. Lake Mohegan offers freshwater swimming and shaded trails when you want a break from the salt and the crowds, and Ash Creek Open Space is the go-to for a long walk with water views and birdlife.
Already in the books for 2026
Two spring staples kicked the season off before this guide went up: the Memorial Day Parade down the Post Road (always the last Monday in May), and the Greenfield Hill Dogwood Festival, which fills Old Academy Road with blossoms and craft stalls every May. Both are worth putting on next year’s calendar now.
A local’s tip
The events are free, but the beaches are sticker-based in season. If you are visiting regularly, the math on a season sticker works out fast, and for one-off evenings like Sand Jam the gate fee is credit card only.
